At around 8:45 p.m. on Oct. 9, an officer came across a car that was traveling in the wrong direction on Pennsylvania Avenue before crashing into a parked vehicle in the area.
While speaking with the driver - who has not been identified - he was instructed to sit on a nearby curb amid the initial investigation; however, he had different intentions.
The driver complied, according to the AG's office, but then took off on foot into a nearby wooded area where he attempted to hide from officers near the intersection of Argyle Avenue and Pitcher Street, at which point backup arrived.
The man was ordered to show his hands, which he refused to comply with, and when he displayed a gun, three officers at the scene fired their weapons, striking him.
He was treated by the officers until paramedics arrived. He was pronounced dead at the scene, and a loaded handgun was found near his body.
No officers were injured.
The AG's Independent Investigation Division (IID) is expected to release the name of the victim and officers involved by the end of the week. Body-cam footage is also expected to be released at a later date.
